We Love Obama: If He Would Just Keep His Promises

The headline above essentially summed up President Obama’s State of the Union speech among news analyst, opinion makers, and focus groups.
A variety of criticism avalanched across Obama’s bow after his largely defiant and lecturing speech that offered some glorious, even inspiring moments that echoed (some say repeated) his campaign and victory speeches. We want to believe, is the silent but unfulfilled outcry among the masses.
The primary call of complaint was that the president has failed to deliver on each and every promise he ever made on the campaign trial, from opening up government and giving us more transparency (such as CSPAN access instead of closed door healthcare), to uniting the Congress with bi-partisan approaches to governing, to securing the nation from war, to increasing jobs and decreasing unemployment, to even closing Guantanamo (a good failure according to most Americans), and more.
The nation sat and watched, still smoldering, still feeling overwhelmingly disgusted by Obama’s new policy to treat terrorists as mere criminals instead of enemy combatants, thus ensuring critical erosion of our national security protections–a policy that could, if left to stand, finally be responsible for the deaths of millions of Americans who could otherwise have been saved by military intelligence gathering that is now being eliminated. It’s the silent killer elephant issue in the room that Obama’s administration cannot defend and it colors his actions and speeches, no matter how great–sadly.
The overriding reality was that Obama had no excuses for his first year’s poor performance with the Democrats in complete control of both houses and ready to do his bidding—if he could have just lead—something he never did and appears incapable of doing to many of those on the Hill.
Today, the stones are hailing on Obama’s all but failed administration as public resentment and discontent soars and the nation struggles economically. Yet the chief reason for Obama’s failure is Obama—his unwillingness to move to a moderate center where he can meet Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats to actually get things done on behalf of the nation—instead, electing to stay the course from a hard left (socialist) vantage that has been clearly rejected by the American people (and why not, given that over 75 percent of the nation’s voters are either moderates or conservatives).
Obama remains one of the most inspiring, beautiful, and eloquent speakers and speechmakers of the 21st Century—truly beguiling at times—but the masses have now broken from their collective hypnotism and ascended from the ether to see the true man and his harmful policies and approaches to governing—his disdain for America—and the people are fed-up—the honeymoon period is long over.
In record time, Obama went from sitting on high with the hope of a nation, to wallowing in the gutter and Americans looking ahead to the next election—everyone hoping America herself can withstand and survive the remaining days of an Obama presidency—hoping the Republicans will keep him reined in and honest and socialism away from the Halls of power and America.
