Patriot Union: Still Needed…

Originally designed to work at the grass roots level across the nation to help voters have a single powerful voice of advocacy (lobbyist might have called it a “special interest” voice, but it was designed to be a “majority citizen interest” voice), the Patriot Union of America (PUA) was officially shut down before 2009 due to funding issues. Today, it is remarkably getting more interest and support than ever before.

Some of you know me from my days as president of the PUA and occasional author and commentator there. My work was all donated for the public good, of course. What most of you do not know, is that the PUA was designed to be the original Tea Party entity of the modern era but with one great exception—instead of the people having to form a new organization each time government outraged them collectively, the PUA was designed to stand as a permanent tool for their use over time—a powerful tool of the people.

Today, thousands of special interest groups routinely lobby and influence both the White House and Congress. Much of the influence is negative or counter to the needs of the average US citizen. What does not exists yet is a single, powerful lobbying voice with teeth that represents the needs and demands of the US citizen majority collective—the majority needs of a people and their nation. The PUA was meant to be that one tool for all of us.

The PUA had designed a highly complex online voting and tracking system so any registered voter could take a variety of ongoing PUA surveys and help chose key political issues and topics that were important to them. In turn, the tabulations would then push PUA’s elected leaders to take action on the top issues on behalf of voters—think of it as a grass roots system of voters and their strength as one voice designed to work at the federal level—the most powerful lobbying tool in the history of the United States—always ready to act on behalf of the people when government got out of hand.

Although the PUA is but a ghost now, yet still maintains its old website of journalist reports, documents, and other aspects that collectively make it a great political research tool on many issues for the general public to use, it also remains as popular as ever.

For the last few months, articles likes these (below) have received some of the most traffic ever—even more than when they were first published. It is also perhaps worth noting that the PUA had a strong freedom of speech editorial policy that required professional journalism standards, but did not overly apply “political correctness” aka “excessive editorial censorship” so if you prefer less edgy, more watered-down news and opinion or corporate-speak subject material, you may wish to avoid clicking through.

The point of this whole story is that while the PUA had its heart in the right place, trying to benefit the vast majority of us, it still failed and it’s still needed (or something like it). We need to take back control of government and the only real tool Americans have to do that with is their vote—worthless alone, but when pooled with millions of other votes on top key issues, it has the power to force lawmakers to do the right thing—for votes are much more powerful than all the lobbying money in the world! However smart such an approach is, it is certainly not welcome by the powers that be–the people should still see it through anyway because their country and their children’s future may ultimately depend on it.
