Dems Okay On Double Standards For Racism?

Posted on | January 12, 2010 | No Comments

He should resign immediately were the calls amid the Republican aisles in the Capital recently, speaking of a now fully outted racist sitting at the head of the Senate.

Senate majority leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, was revealed as a racist recently in a new book (Game Change) which quotes him as saying privately in 2008 that Obama could be successful as a black candidate in part because of his “light-skinned” appearance and speaking patterns “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one,” according to CNN. Of course, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., famous Civil Rights leader, was known for his speeches condemning racism. In his “I Have A Dream” speech, he asked the world that his children “one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” Apparently Reid still believes skin color is the way to judge someone. And what’s worse, is that the Democratic Party and major Black organizations and personalities are siding with him, protecting him instead of condemning him. King would be turning over in his grave if he discovered such a sick-minded reality.

“Reid said Monday that numerous prominent African-American officials, including NAACP Chairman Julian Bond and Attorney General Eric Holder, have called him to offer support amid the controversy that began over the weekend,” said a CNN article (1)

Katie Harper of the Huffington Post (HP) decided to focus her article on Dick Cheney and his racism toward deflecting the issue off Reid in a round about way. Rather than condemn Reid, Harper points out that daughter Liz Cheney accused Reid of acting like her father with the majority of Harper’s article focused on Cheney rather than Reid. Such slanted, extremist liberal coverage should be expected from HP, but more so, it illustrates the entire stance taken by Democrats on the issue when it comes to one of their own and their misdeeds. Amid other supporters of the racist acts by Reid were African-American political figures including: Reverend Al Sharpton, CNN’s Roland Martin and Donna Brazile, Wade Henderson, head of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, and House Dems Barbara Lee and Jim Clyburn. (1)

“I’ve apologized to the president,” said Reid, and to everyone “within the sound of my voice that I could have used a better choice of words.” (3) And what might those alternative words have been if nobody was witnessing such hidden realities… “We’re going to have to contend with that damn nig… in the White House” or other such defamatories, Mr. Reid?

Had these remarks come from any Republican, the Dem controlled news media and Capitol would have been outraged and up in arms, demanding heads to roll, but in today’s double standard political arena, it simply calls for damage control.

“Let’s divert attention to something else because we do not want to admit one of our own is a racist and should be removed from the Capitol immediately to set an example to all American voters and our children—we are the party that embraces racism but says we don’t because we embrace a double standard that refuses to hold ourselves unaccountable,” might as well say the collective voice of the Dem Party and its supporters.

This is a sad day for America. We have sunken to a new moral, racial, and ethical low.
